I hope you’re having a great start to your Monday, but if you’re looking for a little motivation, you’ve come to the right place. It’s time for my second installment in the True To Yourself series where I’m talking about expressing my personality through style and great Ariat designs!
Today I’m channeling the athleisure trend. For those of you who don’t follow those fancy runway terms, athleisure is basically dressed up gym clothes, which is totally my spirit animal. I’m all here for the looking chic while wearing comfortable pants look, let’s be honest. The key to nailing this look is to layer comfortable pieces together that have detail, but remember, the point is to feel comfortable so don’t lose that aspect!
FUN AND ACTIVE
This outfit totally gave me urban vibes – the ball cap and long jacket made me feel like I was in some kind of dance crew or something. Maybe I’m not on a dance team, but I think I totally brought the swag along with me.
I completely built this outfit around these Ariat Fusion tennis shoes. Not only are they practical and comfortable but are made of dark red suede (swoon) which totally made me want to reinvent the athleisure trend with some fun western elements. Let me add, these shoes look amazing with jeans, leggings, work out pants – the material and styling really brings some spunk to any outfit.
After opening these shoes up, I knew I had a piece in my closet that was made to be worn with them -enter this gorgeous dress I got from Goodwill. Yes, my jacket is actually a dress I got for less than five dollars. I love it when you can stretch the use out of a piece! It is an exact color match to the shoes and gives an element of drama to my graphic tee and jogger pants ensemble.
These jogger pants are perfect for actually going for a run or just catching a flight. They have an interesting ribbed pattern on the inner and outer seams that add interest to a basic staple. I paired them with this fun tied up Johnny Cash graphic tee. I thought the graphic really popped and made the outfit more fun.
Jogger Pants: Target
Graphic Tee: Hot Topic
Since this is supposed to be an active, athletic inspired look, I wanted to keep the accessories simple. For a little added flair, I put on this custom made ball cap, a fun cross pendent beaded necklace and carried a painted clutch.
Hat: Triangle T Boutique
Necklace: Lil Bees Bohemian
Putting my own spin on a popular trend really showed me how much fun you can have incorporating your personal touch into every day outfits. I love how light and fun this outfit is while still making you stand back and take in all of the elements. I felt like I was channeling casual cool, which is what I aim for when I get dressed in the morning. Making a complex look seem effortless is truly a skill, but the athleisure trend really nails it.
This look for me was about being myself in every outfit. Even when I’m not dressed 100 percent western, I can still add elements that reflect my personality and add unexpected flair. Don’t be afraid to experiment and push the boundaries of what you can make out of popular trends. Never feel like you need to copy a trend – use it as inspiration to do your own thing!
